Bureau of Meteorology issues warning for Monday

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for potential thunderstorms and heavy rainfall along Australia's east coast on Monday.

The warning area stretches from northern New South Wales to southern Queensland, with the bureau urging residents to prepare for possible flash flooding and other hazards.

The bureau said the thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon or evening, and could bring with them damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall.

"The potential for severe thunderstorms exists over parts of eastern Australia on Monday," the bureau said in a statement.

"Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are the main hazards associated with these thunderstorms."

The bureau said the thunderstorms are most likely to impact areas in northern New South Wales, including the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast and Hunter regions.

In Queensland, the warning area includes the South East Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Central Highlands and Coalfields regions.

The bureau urged residents in the warning area to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and warnings, and to be prepared to take action if necessary.

"If you are in the warning area, please stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology," the bureau said.

"Be aware of your surroundings and take action to protect yourself and your property if a severe thunderstorm approaches."

The bureau said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
