Chinese operative 'spied on dissidents in Germany'

Subheadline

A Chinese operative has been accused of spying on Chinese dissidents in Germany and sharing information on the European Parliament.

Lhomme Jian G is accused of working for the Chinese state security ministry and targeting members of the Chinese opposition in Germany. He is also accused of sharing information on the work of the European Parliament with Chinese officials.

Jian G was arrested in Germany in March 2019. He is currently being held in custody and is due to go on trial later this year.

The German authorities have said that Jian G's arrest is a significant development in their efforts to combat Chinese espionage in Germany.

The Chinese government has denied that Jian G is a spy and has called for his release.

MEP Maximilian Krah

On the website of the European Parliament, Jian G is listed as an accredited assistant to MEP Maximilian Krah. Krah is a member of the far-right AfD party.

Krah has defended Jian G and has said that he believes that the allegations against him are politically motivated.

The AfD party has been accused of having close ties to Russia and China.
